Sports Picks of the Day

The Big-10 took a "big hit" over the weekend, as three of its teams, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 8 Iowa all lost on Saturday.

Michigan was beaten at home by No. 20 Notre Dame, Ohio State at home by No. 2 Texas and Iowa on the road by unranked Iowa State. It marked the first time all three schools had lost on the same Saturday since 1988! All but Ohio State (at No. 9), dropped out of the AP's latest top-10. USC didn't play but remains the nation's No. 1-ranked team for a record-tying 21st consecutive poll (Miami-Fla was No. 1 for 21 straight weeks in the 2001-02 seasons).Week 1 of the NFL reminded us all the Pete Rozelle's dream of parity is alive and well. SF, which did not win a game in regulation during the 2004 season (won twice in OT), beat St. Louis 28-25 despite having no player rush for more than 22 yards plus didn't score in the game's final 25 minutes (had just 12 FDs and 217 yards of total offense).

TB, just 12-20 since its Super Bowl win, won at Minnesota 24-13 forcing Daunte Culpepper into five turnovers and Detroit beat GB 17-23. The Packers had won eight of their last nine against the Lions and were held without a TD for the first time since 1992. The Dolphins, off a 4-12 season, crushed the Broncos in Miami 34-10 and the "feel-good" story of the week was delivered by the New Orleans Saints. The team without a home, won 23-20 at Carolina (SI's pick to win it all, so the jinx is alive and well), when John Carney kicked a game-winning FG with three seconds left.

Heres my free pick of the day
Event: Los Angeles Angels vs Seattle Mariners on 09/12/2005 at 19:05

Anaheim is heating up having won eight of their last eleven, four straight, and traveling to a venue where they are 6-0 this year. Perfect situation for Halo starter Ervin Santana who always seems to follow up bad start with a gem. Santana has allowed five earned runs or more in six of his eighteen starts. He was ripped by Boston in his last. In the start after his first five "bad" outings, he's 5-0 with a 1.42 ERA and avgd. 7 2/3s innings in those starts. If he continues this form he should be lights out tonight. Joel Pineiro has b2b quality starts but owns 5.43 ERA at Safeco Field and 5.15 ERA LT vs. Angels. Anaheim is 17-9 at Seattle over L3 yrs, and as previously mentioned, 6-0 this year.

Take Anaheim.
